Product Custom Attribute localization
Moderate Upgrade
❗ Important: This feature is currently in Early Availability (EA) status.
With this release, Product Custom Attribute content can be localized per marketplace language, following existing platform translation standards.
This update mitigates accessibility risks related to incorrect language presentation, particularly for EU marketplaces, and aligns Custom Attributes with WCAG language requirements.
Key highlights
- This update fixes the issue where product details would appear in one language (for example, Spanish) while custom attributes remained stuck in the default language (for example, English).
- When creating a new custom attribute, you will now see two additional input types available in the configuration screen:
- Text with Localization — A single-line text field that supports full translation from the default language.
- Text Area with Localization — A multi-line text field that supports full translation from the default language.
- For attributes created using these two new types, the system retains both the default and translated values simultaneously. This ensures the correct version is served dynamically based on the storefront language.
- Without Localization: Standard Text and Text Area attributes remain limited to a single value; updating them in a second language will overwrite the original default value.
- Localization for these new fields applies consistently across all product-related APIs, queries, and search indexing.
Limitations
- Existing product custom attributes of type Text and Text Area cannot be retroactively localized. New fields have been added that support localization. Please reach out to your Account Manager or Technical Consultant for best practices on migrating your current attributes.
- Localization is currently only available for product custom attributes. Other custom attribute types are not yet translatable.
